I’ve got a passion for great design, historic preservation and striking aesthetic elements, across a range of architectural styles.
I believe that good design should be available to everyone, regardless of background or income bracket. Maybe you’re planning a complete home renovation ‘down to the studs,’ or perhaps you’re ready to remodel your kitchen or bathroom in an otherwise functional home. This is why I offer a broad range of design services, from a general design consultation to extensive design and project management of renovation projects.
I served for several years on the board of the Highland Park Heritage Trust, and am known for my work in historic preservation and with home restoration and renovation projects in historic communities. I won a 2014 Preservation Award from the City of Los Angeles and HPHT for my restoration of a 1903 Dutch Colonial Revival home in the Highland Park/Garvanza HPOZ.
A bit about my design philosophy:
Every space is different, which is what makes each design opportunity uniquely challenging and rewarding. At the heart of any good design work is an ability to connect with the soul of a place, figuring out a structure or site’s most favorable attributes or potential and playing to those strengths as a starting point. From there a cohesive execution of elements, driven by each space’s internal logic, is how a place’s design potential is fully realized.
A common point of emphasis is improving indoor/outdoor flow and usability, and combining elements of styling with careful consideration of space utilization, to achieve improved form and function and create spaces that are inspiring and foster healthy living. I have a special affinity for architectural salvage, particularly the use of vintage lighting and hardware, which I often restore and enjoy incorporating into projects. I now offer a large inventory of vintage lighting currently available for sale online and at my storefront and design studio in Highland Park, Los Angeles.
